RESTAURANT

Why are we called Cala Bona?

Our restaurant is named Cala Bona, in homage to the history and tradition of Blanes. In the past, the current Cala de Sant Francesc was known as Cala Bona, a name that highlighted the qualities of this spot as a safe refuge for fishermen during storms. The term “bona” referred to the natural protection that the cove offered against local winds, especially the most dangerous ones.

In 1681, a chapel dedicated to St. Francis Xavier was built, which led to the name change to Cala de Sant Francesc. Despite this modification, the original name Cala Bona remains alive among the people of Blanes, especially among those who frequent the cove.

As proud residents of Blanes, we wanted to preserve this local legacy and pay tribute to the history of our city, which is why our restaurant is called Cala Bona.
